Matthew “Gus” Gusul, PhD
Gus is a community-engaged researcher, facilitator, and strategist whose work bridges the worlds of social change, intercultural practice, and organizational development. Gus brings a calm, relational approach to every project – rooted in trust, equity, and the belief that communities know what they need to thrive.
Gus holds a PhD from the University of Victoria and has spent over 20 years working alongside Indigenous communities, newcomer populations, and non-profit organizations across Canada and internationally in India, China, Mexico, and Guatemala. His background in the arts and academia informs his approach to systems navigation, storytelling, and program design, allowing him to help organizations express their impact clearly while staying true to their values.
Known for his strategic thinking, political awareness, and steady leadership, Gus supports clients in navigating government relations, designing meaningful programs, and crafting compelling narratives that resonate with funders, policymakers, and community members alike. He is particularly passionate about initiatives that are Indigenous-led, care-centered, and grounded in community knowledge.
Whether facilitating strategic planning sessions, guiding communications, or supporting governance and policy work, Gus brings care, clarity, and a collaborative spirit to everything he does. For over a decade, Alix honed her skills as a theatre director, project lead, and proposal writer in the theatre world—experience that now translates seamlessly into her consulting work. She’s a natural collaborator with a talent for synthesizing diverse perspectives, aligning teams, and delivering polished, impactful proposals that move organizations forward.
